Cushitic Cuisine | Our Story

The table we were built to set

Cushitic Cuisine brings Somali and Ethiopian cooking to Kent, Washington — a rare thing in the Pacific Northwest, and absolutely worth the drive.
The Cushitic peoples

The Cushitic peoples

Cushitic Cuisine began with the two of us, a mother and daughter, sharing homemade East African meals from our kitchen. We started by selling plates to family and friends, and before long, we were catering birthdays, family gatherings, and special events. With the love and support of our community, our home kitchen grew into the restaurant we’re proud to call home today.
Why Kent, WA

Why Kent, WA

The restaurant sits on a quiet residential stretch of Kent, far from any trendy dining corridor — and that is the point. This is where the East African community in greater Seattle lives, and Cushitic Cuisine was built to be its table.
The Name

The Name

The name Cushitic Cuisine reflects our East African heritage. “Cushitic” represents the people, cultures, and languages rooted throughout the Horn of Africa. Our family’s roots span Somalia, Ethiopia, and Eritrea. One of us comes from a Somali mother and an Eritrean father, while the other has an Ethiopian father and a mother of Somali and Eritrean heritage. Together, our blended heritage inspired us to create a menu that celebrates the authentic flavors and hospitality of East Africa.
